Verification activities at Radiotherapy Facilities aim to ensure that the addition and operation of new aircraft modalities in radiotherapy activities are declared safe for the safety of workers, patients, the community and the environment. The Verification Team ensures that the design built has met safety standards through the calculation of radiation retaining building design and main equipment, supporting equipment, human resources, and operating procedures for these activities have met radiation safety requirements.

The Inspection Team lead by the Director of DPFRZR-BAPETEN, Ishak with team members Herry Irawan and Maradi Abdillah conducted verification at Dr. Wahidin Sudirohusodo Hospital Makassar for Saginova Type Bebig Brachytherapy Plane with Co-60 source. While at RSUD Dr. Soedarso Pontianak, the inspection team led by the Coordinator of the Health Facility Licensing Function Group-BAPETEN Iin Indartati with members Made Pramayuni, Bambang Riyono, Sulistiyoningsih and Toni Wahyu Pamungkas, conducted verification for the Elekta Type Synergy Platform Linac aircraft.

The scope of the onsite inspection includes document and technical inspection of built design facilities’ suitability and the adequacy of the radiation barrier thickness of the radiotherapy bunker, ensuring the performance of the main and supporting equipment, measuring radiation exposure and dosimetry testing, ensuring patient flow and the ability of personnel to operate Brachytherapy and Linac aircraft according to standards, inspection of radioactive source protection and security equipment and performance of radioactive source security systems.

From the results of the verification of the radiotherapy operating license, the Hospital is committed to completing the findings submitted by the BAPETEN team within a certain time limit. The smooth running of the verification activities was supported by the Hospital who followed and welcomed the activities until the end, any shortcomings were considered as input and technical advice on the fulfillment of radiation safety in accordance with applicable regulations and standards.

The addition of modalities in radiotherapy facilities, namely Brakiterapi aircraft at RSUD Dr. Wahidin Sudirohusodo Makassar as a pioneer integrated referral hospital in Indonesia, will further improve the full and best service to the community.

As for RSUD dr. Soedarso Pontianak, the issuance of the Linac aircraft radiotherapy operating license will improve the quality of services to the people of West Kalimantan with the latest technology, so that the chances of healing cancer patients will be greater, as stated by the Director of RSUD dr.
