Radiation Baseline Mapping of Naturally Occurring Radioactive Material in Pertamina Hulu Indonesia's Working Area
Kembali 02 Agustus 2024 | Berita BAPETENThe Nuclear Energy Regulatory Agency (BAPETEN), through the Centre for Regulatory Assessment of Nuclear Installations and Materials (P2STPIBN), in coordination with Pertamina Hulu Indonesia, carried out baseline mapping of radiation from Naturally Occurring Radioactive Material (NORM) in several upstream oil and gas working areas in East Kalimantan Province on July 29 - August 2, 2024. This activity was carried out in an effort to supervise NORM so that an effective technical safety policy is needed that prioritizes cooperation and synergy between related national stakeholders.
On the first day of the activity, initial coordination was carried out at the Pertamina Regional 3 Zone 9 office in Balikpapan City. The study team, consisting of Khoirul Huda as team leader, accompanied by Tino Sawaldi Adi Nugroho and E.H. Riyadi as team members, was received by representatives from Pertamina Regional 3 Zone 9, namely Dr. Harry Djokohoetarjo Hoerip (Assistant Manager Health), Ahmad Zuhal Fachri (Assistant Manager Environment), and Mahadewi Mustika Putri (Assistant Occupational Health and Industrial Hygiene). The head of the study team, Khoirul, during the entry meeting, conveyed the purpose of the activity, namely to conduct radiation baseline mapping at oil and gas exploration and production facilities, especially at points where scale and sludge are estimated to accumulate, which, based on the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) reference, are materials that have the potential to contain NORM in oil and gas exploration and production activities.
The radiation baseline mapping activity began at Pertamina EP Sanga-Sanga, located in Sanga-Sanga, Kutai Kertanegara, then continued to Pertamina Hulu Sanga-Sanga, located in Muara Badak, Kutai Kertanegara. The last radiation baseline mapping activity was carried out at Pertamina EP Sangatta, located in South Sangatta, East Kutai.
Radiation baseline mapping from NORM was conducted in the oil and gas production area, namely the Main Gathering Station and the export pipeline (Export Manifold). In addition, radiation baseline measurements and scale sampling were also conducted on used oil and gas exploration and production pipes at the used pipe storage location. [Ryd/P2STPIBN/BHKK/GP]
