The Nuclear Energy Regulatory Agency (BAPETEN) received a visit from the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) for further consultation on radiation and radiation hazard management, as well as a tour of BAPETEN's environmental laboratory on August 5, 2025.

The Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries, represented by the Head of the Quality Management Center, Woro Nur Endang, along with her staff, was warmly welcomed and received by the Director of Engineering and Nuclear Emergency (DKKN), Yudi Pramono, at Building A BAPETEN. This activity will also enhance coordination and cooperation among government agencies, particularly in regulatory oversight according to their respective duties and functions.

During the meeting, the Director of DKKN highlighted several key aspects of BAPETEN's oversight, which can be conducted through radiation detection, radioactive identification, radioactive emergency response, and radioactive decontamination.

The meeting was also attended by BAPETEN’s Manager of Engineering Function Group, Kusbandono; Manager of Nuclear Preparedness Function Group, Agus Yudhi Pristianto; and Manager of Public Communication Function Group, Abdul Qohhar T.E.P., who helped introduce the comprehensive radiation oversight in Indonesia across the industrial, medical, and nuclear facility sectors that has been implemented to date. Several stages or steps of detection using Radiation Portal Monitors (RPM) were explained in detail, including further detection using Personal Radiation Detectors (PRD) as handheld equipment that significantly assists field officers in further tracing the location of radiation sources.

The event continued with a discussion regarding the output process for inspected food products or written statements confirming that imported products are free from radiation hazards, as BAPETEN is the agency authorized in radiation oversight.

Following the discussion, a visit was paid to DKKN laboratories, such as the environmental laboratory and the Emergency Response Unit (STD) monitoring room, to introduce several pieces of equipment used in the oversight conducted by BAPETEN. [DKKN/Firdaus/BHKK/Yuli/Translator: GP]
