Senior officials of BAPETEN received a courtesy call from the Embassy of the Republic of Angola in Indonesia at the BAPETEN Office on Friday, 9 January 2026. The meeting discussed the discovery of eight containers originating from Angola that were contaminated with Cesium-137 at Tanjung Priok Port in November 2025.

The courtesy call was led by the Deputy Chairman for Nuclear Safety Assessment, Haendra Subekti, and was attended by the Director of Technical Support and Nuclear Emergency Preparedness (DKKN), Yudi Pramono; the Director of Inspection of Radiation Facilities and Radioactive Materials (DIFRZR), Zulkarnain; the Director of Regulation of Radiation Facilities and Radioactive Materials (DP2FRZR), Mukhlisin; and the Activity Manager of the Functional Group for the Assessment of Non-Reactor Nuclear Installations, Petit Wiringgalih. At the opening of the meeting, Haendra introduced the BAPETEN officials in attendance and expressed his appreciation for the visit of the Representative of the Embassy of the Republic of Angola in Indonesia, João Soares.

The meeting continued with a discussion session, opened by Haendra Subekti, who stated that the containers in question had been shipped back from Indonesia to Angola on 17 December 2025. The transportation process is estimated to take approximately two months. He also explained that continuous oversight of cargo movements is being carried out, including through the use of Radiation Portal Monitors (RPM) at Tanjung Priok Port.

The discussion was then continued by João Soares, who stated, “On this occasion, I am here to obtain further information from BAPETEN. Based on the information I have received, the vessel in question has departed from Indonesia and is estimated to be en route back to Angola.”

In closing the discussion, BAPETEN reaffirmed that any further information would be conveyed through official mechanisms in accordance with applicable regulations. With regard to oversight, BAPETEN may conduct secondary inspections as part of its monitoring activities without opening the container cargo. The event concluded with a group photo session.
