Nuclear Energy Regulatory Agency (BAPETEN) is carrying out decontamination activities on sources contaminated with Caesium-137 (Cs-137) in the Cikande Modern Industrial Area, Serang Regency, Banten. These activities are part of a series of decontamination efforts scheduled from October 13 to 17, 2025. The third day of the activities, held on October 15, 2025, focuses on the transportation and transfer of contaminated sources at several locations.

At the start of the second day of a series of decontamination activities for sources contaminated with Cesium-137 (Cs-137) in the Cikande Modern Industrial Area, the Director of Techical Support and Nuclear Emergency Preparedness (DKKN) / Head of the BAPETEN Emergency Response Unit (STD) Team, Yudi Pramono; Head of the Centre for Regulatory Assesment of Radiation Facilities and Radioactive Materials (P2STPFRZR), Dedik Eko Sumargo; the Deputy Head of the BAPETEN STD Team, Agus Yudhi Pristianto; along with the decontamination supervision team, conducted technical coordination in the Cikande Modern Industrial Area on October 15, 2025, to ensure that the decontamination activities were carried out effectively and efficiently while maintaining the safety of all personnel in the field.

The activity then continued with dose rate measurements and decontamination (removal/cleaning) at 10 designated radiation source locations (stalls/areas/residential homes). These efforts included survey activities such as coring (the process of taking material samples from soil or rock) conducted by the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), perimeter installation, and remeasurement of dose rates. Decontamination activities also included data collection for resident relocation, demolition of contaminated semi-permanent structures, followed by stripping (the removal of contaminated soil or rock), and the removal and transfer of the contaminant source to emergency interim storage.

Led by Edward Nixon Pakpahan, Director of Air Quality Protection and Management at the Ministry of Environment / Environmental Control Agency (KLH/BPLH), the activity concluded with a daily evaluation meeting involving all participating agencies, including BAPETEN, KLH/BPLH, BRIN, Nubika TNI AD, KBRN Gegana Brimob, and other relevant institutions, to assess the day’s progress and coordinate technical activities for the following day.
