BAPETEN Participates in the 15th Annual Meeting of the Asia-Pacific Safeguards Network
Kembali 08 November 2024 | Berita BAPETENThe Nuclear Energy Regulatory Agency (BAPETEN) again participated in the 15th annual meeting of the Asia-Pacific Safeguards Network (APSN), which was held on 5-6 November 2024 in Krabi, Thailand. This meeting is an annual forum attended by representatives from nuclear energy regulatory bodies in the Asia Pacific region, which aims to be a forum for exchanging information and experiences in the implementation of nuclear safeguards.
This year's APSN meeting was attended by 17 countries, including Australia, Bangladesh, Brunei Darussalam, Canada, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, South Korea, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Laos, the United States, Vietnam, Palau, Mongolia, and the United Arab Emirates. In addition, this meeting was also attended by several representatives from organizations, including the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and the Institute of Nuclear Materials Management (INMM).
Meanwhile, representatives from BAPETEN who attended included Acting Chairman of BAPETEN, Sugeng Sumbarjo; Coordinator of Safeguards Inspection, Kusbandono; and Head of Data and Information Section, Esturini Fitriyanti. The meeting was opened by Deputy Secretary General of the Office of Atom for Peace (OAP), Thailand, Pennapa Kanchana; Deputy Director General of Safeguards IAEA, Massimo Aparo; Director of the Division of Non-proliferation, Science, and Nuclear Energy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, Naobumi Yokota; and Deputy Governor of Krabi Province, Thailand, Suwit Suriyawong.
This year's meeting was held specifically to commemorate the 15th APSN meeting, so on this occasion, the launch of the new APSN website that has been built by BAPETEN was also carried out through apsn.bapeten.go.id. On this occasion, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was also signed between APSN and INMM to strengthen cooperation in the exchange of information in the field of nuclear technology.
After the implementation of the APSN annual meeting, it continued with the Safeguards Implementation Strategy Development Seminar organized by the IAEA on November 7-8, 2024. In this seminar, information was exchanged on safeguards implementation experiences in several countries as well as discussions on best practices in safeguards implementation.
