BAPETEN hosted a study visit from Politeknik Al Islam Bandung on Thursday, 15 January 2026, in Jakarta. The visit was attended by 35 students and aimed to enhance their understanding of BAPETEN’s roles, functions, and scope of authority in supervising the utilization of nuclear energy in Indonesia.

The activity began with welcoming remarks delivered by the Coordinator of Public Communication, Abdul Qohhar. In his remarks, Qohhar welcomed the students and accompanying lecturers. The welcome was warmly received by the representative of the accompanying lecturers from Politeknik Al Islam Bandung, Kusnanto. According to Kusnanto, the study visit was motivated by the large number of students who refer to BAPETEN as a key source in preparing their final academic projects. Through this activity, the students received direct explanations regarding the implementation of regulations, the licensing system, and the application of radiation safety practices in the field.

In addition, BAPETEN presented an overview of the institution’s history, including the background of its establishment as a non-ministerial government institution directly accountable to the president for regulatory oversight functions. Regarding field supervision, BAPETEN explained that not all personnel are authorized to serve as inspectors. Despite the limited number of inspectors, BAPETEN continues to pursue various initiatives to ensure that inspection activities remain effective. If equipment is found to be unreliable or poses potential safety risks, inspectors are authorized to suspend the activity and issue a warning in the form of a red sticker.

Furthermore, the question and answer session addressed issues related to radiation utilization licensing, including the use of portable X-ray equipment, which is subject to the same regulatory requirements as other radiation equipment, from measurement testing to reporting. BAPETEN also responded to students' questions regarding the time required to develop regulations. In general, the formulation of regulations takes approximately two to three years, but may extend to four to five years if adjustments or technical constraints arise. Revisions to licensing requirements are carried out in accordance with the level and specific needs of each institution.

Through this activity, the students are expected to gain a more comprehensive understanding of radiation safety, the role of radiographers, and the rights and obligations that must be fulfilled to ensure the safe and secure utilization of nuclear energy. BAPETEN reaffirmed its commitment to continuously carrying out regulatory oversight and guidance in accordance with applicable regulations and procedures. The event concluded with the presentation of souvenirs. [BHKK/Hafid/Da]
