BAPETEN Courtesy Call with the Millennium Challenge Corporation Discusses Preparations for SMR Compact II Due Diligence Program

BAPETEN held a courtesy call with the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) on December 12, 2025, at the BAPETEN Office. The meeting, led by the Director of Regulation of Nuclear Installations and Materials (DP2IBN), Nur Syamsi Syam, was conducted to prepare for the due diligence process of the Small Modular Reactor (SMR) Program under the MCC Compact II framework
During the meeting, MCC Indonesia presented the scope of Compact II, which focuses on improving access to infrastructure financing, including the SMR Nuclear Study. This study will assess the technical, regulatory, and institutional feasibility, as well as the potential economic benefits of SMR development in Indonesia.
BAPETEN emphasized the need to strengthen regulatory capacity, particularly in safety design evaluation and the readiness of inspection tools for SMR technology. Representatives from the National Development Planning Agency (BAPPENAS), BRIN, and other relevant institutions also provided input on data synchronization, government grant mechanisms, and the integration of the study results into national development planning.
The meeting concluded with a joint commitment to strengthen coordination in order to support the smooth implementation of the due diligence process and the preparation for the development of safe and reliable nuclear technology in Indonesia. [DP2IBN/Frilia Elfani Putri/BHKK/Da]
