The Mobile Expert Support Team (MEST) of BAPETEN immediately coordinated with the Tanjung Priok Customs and Excise Office, Port Authority, JICT Terminal Management, the Marine and Fisheries Quality Agency (KKP), and the Indonesian Quarantine Agency to conduct oversight measures and an initial investigation upon the vessel’s arrival at the port. This action is part of the MEST’s series of activities to ensure that every container detected by the radiation monitoring system is thoroughly inspected in accordance with nuclear safety procedures.

Fajariadi, the Head of BAPETEN’s Mobile Expert Support Team (MEST), together with Radiation Supervisors Zulfiandri and Nisa Akmalia Thori, stated that early detection efforts such as this are part of a layered monitoring system for imported and exported goods passing through Indonesia’s main ports. “We continue to coordinate with the relevant agencies to ensure that no radioactive materials that may endanger public safety or the environment are allowed to pass through,” said the Team Leader.

The investigation of the suspected container was carried out by BAPETEN’s Radiation Supervisory Team on-site together with relevant port authorities. The results of the investigation will serve as the basis for BAPETEN to issue recommendations for further action in accordance with applicable regulations.
