BAPETEN Conducts Field Verification of Ionizing Radiation Generator Utilization at Belawan Port
Kembali 23 Desember 2025 | Berita BAPETEN | 15 lihatBAPETEN, through the Directorate of Licensing of Radiation Facilities and Radioactive Materials (DPFRZR), conducted a verification of the utilization of ionizing radiation sources on 22–23 December 2025 at Belawan Port. The activity was carried out as a follow up to the licensing application submitted by PT Belawan New Container Terminal (BNCT). The on site verification activities included document review, inspection of facility design, functional testing of equipment, and measurement of radiation exposure.
In the future, the ionizing radiation generator (PRP) of the G-Scan brand will be used to inspect container cargo at the port’s import and export gates. This is intended to support container cargo inspection activities in an accurate, effective, and efficient manner. The generator is known to be capable of producing energy up to a maximum limit of 7.5 MeV. Therefore, BAPETEN needs to conduct regulatory oversight to ensure that the equipment complies with safety, security, and defense in depth requirements.
In addition, the import and export gates of Belawan Port have been equipped with Radiation Portal Monitoring (RPM) systems, on which BAPETEN also conducted testing. These RPM systems are intended to detect the presence of radioactive substances in commodities entering the territory of Indonesia. [DPFRZR/Supri/HRUF]
