BAPETEN Attends the Launch of the Directorate General of Customs and Excise’s Container Scanning Equipment at Tanjung Priok

BAPETEN attended the launch of the Container Scanning (X-Ray) Equipment owned by the Directorate General of Customs and Excise at Tanjung Priok on December 12, 2025. The event aimed to enhance the security of goods traffic entering and leaving through Tanjung Priok , including the detection of illegal goods and items containing radioactive substances.

Representing BAPETEN at the event were the Deputy Chairman for Nuclear Safety Assessment, Haendra Subekti, and the Director of Technical Support and Nuclear Emergency Preparedness (DK2N). The container scanning equipment has obtained an operating license from BAPETEN since May 2025. As the authority responsible for supervising the utilization of nuclear energy, BAPETEN attended the event to observe and conduct further coordination related to the scanning equipment, which is equipped with a Radiation Portal Monitor (RPM) feature.

Minister of Finance Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa stated that the use of container scanning equipment, along with the development of AI-based technology, is intended to combat the smuggling of illegal goods and ensure the security of the flow of goods entering Indonesian territory. “Customs officially inaugurated the container scanner today, and we hope this will prevent all forms of smuggling,” he said.

The container scanning equipment has obtained an operating license from BAPETEN since May 2025. The RPM feature on the scanner enables the detection of radioactive substances, nuclear materials, or radioactive contamination. If the RPM alarm is activated, Customs officers will notify BAPETEN to conduct further analysis or inspection. [BHKK/Da]
